Frequently Asked Questions

How do I setup WePay?

In your site manager, navigate to Settings > Payment Settings, then select WePay and click “Start connection process”. WePay should only be configured by someone with the authority to manage the business entity. This process will ask you to provide tax IDs, SSNs, and bank account information. To begin the WePay connection process, please enter the following info:

  • First Name
  • Last Name
  • Email address
    • If you already have a WePay account with a different provider, you will need to use a different email address for this account
  • Business Name
  • A Short Business description

Next: WePay will send you a verification email. You will need to access that verification email to continue with the onboarding process (it may take up to 30 minutes for the email to arrive).

Open the email and click "confirm." A new window will open, prompting you to set a password. Once you have set a password, WePay will guide you through the account set up process. You will need to enter information about your business and connect a bank account.

What card types are accepted by SmartEtailing Payments?

  • All major credit cards

Is there a setup fee?

No. There are no setup fees. All rate information is transparent and varies based on package level. There are no setup fees, monthly fees, or batch fees.

Is there a long term commitment?

No. You can cancel at any time.

Are payments authorized right away?

Yes. When a customer makes a payment using a credit card, the payment is authorized and the funds captured in one step. This simplifies the process and minimizes the potential for error. You may also choose manual payment capture which requires additional steps to capture funds. When the order is placed, a payment authorization is created. You will need to review the payment authorization within 7 days and choose to capture funds.

Will I be able to see payment related reports?

Yes.WePay accounts also have their own dashboard for reporting. Click the account dashboard button and you’ll be prompted to login to WePay Merchant Center. Your username and password was set at onboarding. You can also create additional accounts for your staff through WePay.

What is the payout schedule?

WePay issues payouts daily. Chase bank accounts are paid out all days of the week including Saturday and Sunday.

WePay can suspend payouts to your account for multiple reasons, including the need to provide additional documentation. Supporting documentation can be provided in the WePay Merchant Center.

What fraud protection is included in WaPay?

WePay/Chase runs all transactions through their proprietary fraud detection suite - leveraging contextual information to manage and mitigate your risk. Their fraud protection models use machine learning to adapt with rapidly changing fraud patterns.

Is fraud protection a guarantee against fraud?

No. WePay does not offer a guarantee or insurance against fraudulent transactions. We recommend that you stay current on manual fraud protection best practices to further protect your business from fraudulent transactions.

What happens when there is a chargeback?

Retailers who accept credit cards are responsible for chargebacks. You will have the opportunity to contest the chargeback regardless of the reason, but chargebacks can cause you to lose money. Broadly speaking, chargebacks occur when there has been fraud, or when the consumer feels that the product or service was inaccurately represented by the merchant.

Can I still use a third party payment provider on my SmartEtailing website?

Yes. SmartEtailing currently allows the use of Paypal and Authorize.net. We recommend that you use WePay for the most optimized software experience.

Do you offer any discounted plans or match rates?

Rates vary based on website package. In limited cases, high volume ecommerce sellers may qualify for lower rates.

Does my rate vary with card type?

No. While our base rate does vary we’ve chosen to offer a simple flat rate to you in order to simplify the complexity of understanding your costs. Your rate will be consistent regardless of the type of credit card a consumer uses when purchasing on your website.

Can I use WePay?

WePay is available on any SmartEtailing website package that has a shopping cart enabled within the U.S. or Canada.
